How to Make Your Hungry Husband Happy the Moment He Walks in the Door

Start by chopping up some ham

and a potato. Toss the potato in a skillet with oil and let it cook over medium heat.

Once the potatoes are done, open up a tamale and chop it up.  Top it with some sour cream.

Now everything goes in with the potatoes in the skillet along with two eggs.

Turn it over and cook over medium heat so all the ingredients
are mixed together and the egg is cooked through.

Then, put it on a plate and right when the garage door opens, hand it to him!

See!?  Happy!

Thanksgiving

Well, we did it! We cooked our first Thanksgiving dinner!  It was scrumptious, and it was SO MUCH FUN!  I really enjoy making a great meal.  I don't like the cooking part, so much, but I do love to put it on the table and call it mine.

So around 2 p.m. (I know, a teensy bit late) I gathered all the ingredients for the five recipes I would be responsible for, and set to work.

My Mom hung out on the couch and entertained Danny by drinking
wine from his straw cup, which was so thoughtfully served to her.

My family really needs to loosen up.

Alejandro went to work preparing and baking the ham.

Meanwhile, I made the candied carrots.

My mom and step-dad brought home-made pumpkin pie

and the drinks.

Time passed, and I got impatient, therefore turning all of the subsequent pictures into horrible specimens of I'm-impatient-so-I'll-just-set-my-camera-on-auto-thereby-giving-everything-a-barfy-yellow-tint.

I made the sweet potato casserole,

ham gravy,

(I know! I'd never heard of ham gravy either!
'Till I decided to invent it.  It was SO good!!)

green bean casserole,

and mashed potatoes.

The company was divine!

And finally,

it was time

to eat!

Every single recipe came out fantastic, so you can click here to see them all, or you can click on each one for the individual recipes.  :)  Enjoy!

After Thanksgiving Thoughts

Here I am, thinking I've done a fairly good job at keeping up with posting all of my pictures, but a fairly poor job of taking many pictures this month.  As it turns out (and as I discovered when I opened my memory card tonight to post recipes and pictures from our Thanksgiving Dinner) I've just done a horrible job at emptying my memory card!  I haven't even posted pictures from Halloween!

Sheesh.

This evening, as I sat down to dinner tonight, simultaneously overwhelmed and enraptured with the mountain of scrumptious FOOD

in front of me equaling more food than I usually cook in an entire week, I had a genius idea.  (If I do say so myself.  And I do.)  I decided that it would be fun to make a Thanksgiving dinner stretch a whole week and use that to replace my meal plan.  It would go something like this:

Monday - ham, gravy and mashed potatoes
Tuesday - grilled ham sandwiches with green bean casserole
Wednesday - rolls topped lightly with gravy and sweet potato casserole
Thursday - sweet glazed carrots, and mashed potatoes with diced ham and gravy on top
Friday - leftovers from everything that's still not eaten up

Doesn't that sound fantastic!?

So anywhooo, it seems I have some catching up to do in the picture-posting department.  I think I'll go in backwards order this time, and start with Thanksgiving.

Yummy recipes... coming right up!

P.S.  Don't forget about my Pink Friday sale!  It starts in two little hours!!  Yippee!

The View

Up until this morning, our street looked like this.

Today?  It looks like this.

I love it!  Both are so beautiful, I can't decide which I like better.  Which is good, because in a few days it'll be back to looking like Fall around here.

I was completely resolved to go to bed early tonight.  I had it all planned out.  Enough of this 1 a.m. stuff. Time for some balance.

Then my husband started making homemade cheese and pulled out the wine.

Now it's 12:30 a.m. and I'm still sitting here.  It is entirely his fault and I take no responsibility for any of it. I'm ruined.

Oh, and he said he wouldn't share the recipe either.  Feel free to call him a meany-head on Facebook.  I give you permission.

Our neighbor has an apple tree.

Therefore, we have APPLES.  Lots.

So last week for our date night, we stayed up until 1 a.m.

Alejandro made apple pie from scratch.  The crust and everything.
Seriously?  What guy does amazing stuff like that.  He's so cool.

He insisted I zoom in on the caramel-ish juicy stuff in the pie before he covered it and put it in the oven.

I made apple preserves.

And then Alejandro made this scrumptious invention with leftover pie dough.  There's turkey, cheese and butter in that thing.  Holy Moley was it uh-may-zing.

Behold.

It was definitely one of the best date nights ever.

Or at least, one of the most delicious.  ;-)

{Look for the recipes over at MiCocina shortly.
Or, ok, have lots of patience with me,
while I get around to posting them,
but I do promise I will.  I promise.}

Sushi and a Blow Torch

We love sushi at our house.

But really, what food do we not love at our house??  I blame the Pioneer Woman.  Or the promise of a banquet in heaven.  Or genes.  Or whatever.  I just really love all kinds of wonderful food.

Plus sushi is just all kinds of wonderful.

Aren't they pretty?  We make our sushi at home.  Because if I go to a sushi place, I end up eating nothing but bombs of sugar wrapped in seaweed.  And certain bloggers who've been out to eat sushi with me do NOT need to elaborate on that point, right?  Right.

Where was I?

Oh yes, rolling sushi at home.  We like to get creative with what we put in it.  This is this past Spring.  This one has rice, crab meat, avocado, cheddar cheese and carrots.

Danny, of course, wanted to roll sushi too, so we let him practice with a tortilla.

He used all the same ingredients.

Just with a tortilla instead of seaweed paper.

Oh and I think we let him put crushed tortilla chips in, just to spice it up.  He often forgot the ingredients go in the roll first and then into the mouth.

I forget that too sometimes.

While Danny enjoyed his sushi funky-tasting burrito, Alejandro decided to get creative.  You know how the sushi restaurants have sushi with sugar crystallized on the outside of the sushi roll?  Well, at least all the ones I order do.  Well, we wanted to do that with our homemade sushi.  What would crystallize sugar?  Heat!  So Alejandro coated his sushi with diluted soy sauce and rolled it in sugar...

and then...

...he blow torched it.

Of course, then I had to try.
